A recent article identified Bath, Canterbury, Coventry and Exeter as the areas that have seen the most significant increase in first time buyers, with many young professionals buying properties in those areas due to factors such as job opportunities, rate of contents theft and average property cost. In this edition of Delving into Data, we are going to take a closer look at the mentioned areas to find out the property prices and the comparative rental prices.

On the Market Properties

  • The average asking price for a property on the market in Bath is £361,289 and a property is on the market for an average of 147 days.
  • The average asking price for a property on the market in Canterbury is £329,800 and a property is on the market for an average of 151 days.
  • The average asking price for a property on the market in Coventry is £291,270 and a property is on the market for an average of 125 days.
  • The average asking price for a property on the market in Exeter is £328,664 and a property is on the market for an average of 162 days.

Coventry has the lowest asking price out of the four areas, and it also has the lowest time on market, suggesting high demand. The highest average time on market is Exeter and the area with the highest asking price is Bath.

Rental Market Properties

  • Rental market properties in Bath are on the market for an average asking price of £1,146 pcm (per calendar month) and the properties there are on the market for an average of 60 days.
  • Rental market properties in Canterbury are on the market for an average asking price of £1,045 pcm and the properties there are on the market for an average of 105 days.
  • Rental market properties in Coventry are on the market for an average asking price of £1,057 pcm and the properties there are on the market for an average of 126 days.
  • Rental market properties in Exeter are on the market for an average asking price of £835 pcm and the properties there are on the market for an average of 80 days. 

Exeter has the lowest average asking price when it comes to rental market properties compared to the other three areas. The area with the highest average asking price is Bath, which also has the shortest time on market. Coventry has the longest average time that a property is on the market for.
